So I periodically look up various persons I remember from Grand Rapids...for some reason Jim Klunder recently came to mind. He was a year older than me, and an average athlete who nonetheless tried hard....playing baseball, basketball, & golf as best as I can recall. I think he also played basketball at Hope College in Holland.
His younger brother, Dan, was my age and in my class at GRCH. I think the reason I remember Jim is because he was always pursuing Lisa Korf as a girlfriend. She was a year younger than him, and she was the stereotypical blonde beauty you find in almost every class. Lisa was a cheerleader and the "queen" of our class. She even asked me out for a date once.
Funny that over time I began to think of many of the girls in my class more as "spiritual sisters" than "beautiful blondes" or brunettes or whatever. After a while I lost my "romantic interest" in most of these nice girls just because we were such a religious school.
I wanted a "missionary wife" but some of them wanted to be beautiful blondes rather than missionary wives. I hope they didn't lose their faith altogether for the sake of becoming a "cover girl" so to speak. Anyways, in all the years I was at GRCH I never spoke to Jim, even in passing. We just nodded at each other. I think he thought of me as competition for his girlfriend, but nothing ever really happened with me & Lisa. I hope she is growing in her faith most of all...that she
gives her life to Jesus Christ.
gives her life to Jesus Christ.
One year while I was going thru seminary in California I returned to Grand Rapids, MI and put Bibles in the mail boxes or door step of a lot of my former classmates including Lisa and even way up in traverse city to a gal I knew there.
A Bible is the PERFECT "olive branch" and a spiritual reminder, even if some people are so paranoid that they actually twist the meaning of it to be something nefarious. Let us ALL put our faith...total heart mind and soul in Jesus Christ ! for more about Jim, see
